The Evolution of South Konnomabana Sawyer Cantina (Remixed)

I don’t know what else can be said.  Tom Sawyer Diner, home to lukewarm, half-hearted food at inflated prices, abruptly went under and re-opened as Konnichiwa.  Less than four weeks later, Konnichiwa has abruptly gone away to make room for The Cabana Sawyer’s Cantina.  Stories here, here, and here.  Didn’t we just have a giant discussion about how this revolving door of downtown venues needs to stop?

  • I still like the Diner idea the best. Why did they have to screw it up? Why not be the best at something rather than be mediocre for a little while and then change to something else that is just as mediocre?

After all this attention on blogHarrisburg, Ron is going to get the idea that all he has to do is come up with another silly idea and we’ll help promote it.

He went from Lowest Common Denominator to Revolving Door…

  • That’s what I’ve said since day one: We need a good 24-hour diner downtown. Closing at 10pm and/or making reuben sandwiches using hamburger patties automatically disqualifies any diner from being “good”.

  • The Roxy already has this market cornered, but only for breakfast and lunch. Problem is, the Roxy doesn’t need the evening hours, and Tom Sawyers won’t be able to get by just on the dinner/ late night crowd.

  • A man (or woman) can not survive on hot dogs alone. Why is food so hard to come by between 5pm and 9am in the city?

  • hard to find between 5 and 9? are you joking? every place that serves food any other time serves at those times. in fact, the pizza joints are open til 3am. wake up. perhaps your thug goggles are on?

  • Konnomabana Sawyer Cantina is another crap joint put together to get quick revenue then run. much like the disrespect the hardware/big cans/eclipse gives to the residents of this neighborhood, the new place plays loud penn state games and half concerts which set off car alarms in the garage driving residents near this crazy. the filth kamionka brings to my home is outrageous and he should be forced to clean it up w/toothbrushes.
2 requests: turn the volume down and clean up after yourself. instead of hirinf 12 yr old girls to work for you, hire responsible employees who respect the area.

  • LOL @ artful_dodger!

All I can say is…well, umm, eh, it’s Harrisburg…business as usual!
    :)

  • Why did they go out of business? I thuoght they were doing okay.

  • Who cares what Sawyer does, the way it sounds nobody even goes there. There’s plenty of bars, find one you like. What’s the obsession with bars on 2nd street anyway? All of the locals (like me) haven’t been to them (except Ceoltas) since ’03.

  • not so much out of business as much as new gimmick time. any way to litter the streets w/trash, drunks and useless penn state games must be the new gimmick. i had the distinct unpleasure of being lured in there by friends on fri night and i must say i was not at all wrong w/my previous judgements. crapola! more like CRAPOLA!! i believe there were 10 people in there…thats including the 12 yr old waitresses whom dont know what clean means. i will not be attending any more evenings there nor do i even want to walk on the same side of the street as there are MORE 12 yr olds harrassing you to come in. hand out a flyer but dont pull my leg please!!
on a positive note: if your looking for a place where being a “thug” is required, this is the place. no crowd is better then a hip-hop crowd!!!!

  • if you cant tell, i ended w/sarcasm. this establishment couldnt be more unfriendly to the hip hop crowd that litter the clubas and especially the sidewalk in front of dragon fly. shut that filth down please.

  • I agree with you artful. I hope a really big building goes in that stretches from Locust down to Pine. Of course letting Zembies move back in though! Hip Hop crowds are dumb and bring no money or class to anything. Plus Hip Hop was alright, like 15 years ago.

  • hip hop and jump your way out of my hood wannabe gangstas!!! fake wankstas!
