It amazes me that in spite of the budget impasse and the threat of partial pay on the 24th and no pay thereafter there are several employees where I work (including myself) that continue to answer the incessant outcry for overtime to supplement a terribly inadequate and mismanaged staff. It seems we recognize a basic truth...the show must go on.
Yes we will get paid eventually...but that is little consolation when you stop to think time and a half of nothing is...nothing.
By the way...what happened to the end of overtime on July 1? I thought the management was on notice to fix the problem of staffing. It seems the solution to mandated overtime is to have compulsory overtime instead.

Jo, assuming these fools are still grandstanding on the 24th please consider contacting the DOL's Wage and Hour office to file a complaint and request that the Secretary of Labor intervene on your behalf.

Take hope all..I just read an article and Sen Yaw says next Friday could mark the first payless day and "this thing (budget impass) could end very, very quickly". Leads me to beleive they know darned well that the Federal Government will likely step in. Here's the article: http://www.sungazette.com/page/content.detail/id/529132.html?nav=5011

Well written and well said. I am a Commonwealth Employee that received her last full paycheck today. On the 24th I will receive 2 days worth of pay but am told my deductions will still come out of this...my savings bond, my SECA contributions, my health insurance deductions, so I don't think I will get more than a tank of gas out of it. I guess you could say I am a lucky one...I work for Corrections (not an officer) and we are served "free" lunches due to not being able to take food inside of the institution so at least I'll have a "decent" meal once a day til we receive our back pay.

I too had some money saved up but decided to redo some things in my house and used more money than I planned but thought that's okay I'll save over the summer. Guess what 2 weeks later the wonderful letter from Governor Rendall was sent and I realized I should have waited to improve my house because I don't have enough money in my savings to support me.

I also am told I may not be able to go back to school this fall since I need to be able to pay my bill by a certain date and I can't guarantee that until I know for sure when my next paycheck will be issued.

I have written to my representatives every week for the past month and a half and am now writing every day. I want them to know they are causing me a voting person hardships and I won't forget this come election time.

I'd like to inform everyone that I had a "sit-down" with Gil Smart of the Lancaster Sunday News for about 45 minutes this morning. He'll be running an article in this Sunday's paper. If you're not in Lancaster, you can check it out @ www.lancasteronline.com He took about 5-6 pages of notes during our conversation. I hope he reflects what I said accurately because I held nothing back. If anyone wants to chime in and give him some input, you can email him @ gsmart@lnpnews.com. STAY UNITED! peace.

OH! My Mil used to make it at home...called it deviled ham. Sweet pickle relish, leftover ham, sometimes a little ring bologna, miracle whip and a little paprika. Served on bread/toast/crackers. Obviously, since it was ham and sometimes some bologna mixed in it was ALWAYS pink! LOL. I LOVED IT!!! They don't make a Karn's stuff such as that in this part of PA.

Basically they take a few different types of lunchmeat and grind them up along with some mayo and pickles. Throw it on some whole-grain toasted bread with American cheese and it's actually very good. They don't always make it, so when you see it, grab it. And sometimes it looks pink. I don't know why. Try not to look at that.

Karns should do an "impasse special" and drop the price back down to $.99 / pound until a budget is signed. Publicity boom for them, cheap food for us!

Like you, today is my last pay and I have to make it last until this is over. I'm a single mother with 2 teenagers and I really don't know what I'm going to do when my pay runs out. I've called my creditors and they are no help so I'm guessing pretty soon, I'll lose my house, my car and everything else. One thing they won't take from me though, is my spirit. This is bad times for many of us but I will not let these damn fools break me.
