Harrisburg Blogs

Well, it’s official. The new blogHarrisburg.com is officially up and running as of this week. What is it, you ask?
Basically, blogHarrisburg pulls feeds from some of the biggest local blogs and concatenates them into one, easy-to-find, easy-to-read website. Think of it like a local-only Technorati, pre-configured to grab Harrisburg stuff. While there are certainly other listings of Harrisburg blogs, I had a hard enough time tracking them down (and none of them have a domain this catchy).
Right now, I’m pulling feeds from HarrisburgNightlife, Jersey Mike, Karns Quality Blog, Sara “palmgranite” Bozich, and of course, myself. I’d know there are other central PA bloggers out there, and I’d like to pick up about another half dozen sites to feed — if you have a central PA blog and you update at least three times a month, speak to me!

I’m also signing on local writers who are interested in making their own contributions to the site. There are more details here, but basically there are two groups of people I’m looking for:

  1. People who have something to say, but lack the skill or time necessary to create and maintain a full blog. Maybe you’ve got some commentary on our local politics. Maybe you’ve got amusing stories to share from your day job at HersheyPark. Maybe you’re from an area that doesn’t receive any coverage in our local media. Whatever the case, blogHarrisburg can get you (and your message) more exposure than just another LiveJournal or Blogspot account could. All you need is something to say; bH takes care of the rest.
  2. People who already have their own blog, but want to say something out-of-character. For example, I might want to blog about some festival over in Perry County (Perry County always has the strangest festivals). I wouldn’t want to detract from floor9’s nightlife theme, so I’d make that post over on blogHarrisburg.

Drop me a line if this sounds like you, and I’ll give you the reins. And if you have a local blog and I’ve failed to include you (contrary to common belief, I do not personally know every single blogger in Harrisburg), please let me know.

  1. Man, this is a late comment, but Ross Karchner used to maintain the localfeeds Harrisburg site. He may still have the list of bloggers he used to include.

  2. Well, few years ago you have local portals where people wrote about local activities. Nowadays you have local blogs with the same occupation. But the problem is still the same: For local contribution you don’t have enough users for generate content.

  3. I would love to be syndicated on blogharrisburg! I write about Central PA, and what it is like to have moved from Chicago to Harrisburg. Let me know!
