Here’s an idea: Can we make the legislators — ALL OF THEM — eligible for furlough if the budget doesn’t pass?

They WANT the budget to pass. The leislature can’t go home for the 4th of July and appear in all their local parades unless the budget is done.
Ultimately it comes down to the Senate republicans opposition to, well, anything that costs money, and Rendell’s massive new program ideas, and reaching some middle ground between the two.
And a lot of posturing.
Trust me, no one wants to furlough the state employees, and I bet it won’t happen.

Posturing is dead-on. But does neither side realize that by simultaneously refusing to yield AND blaming the other side for the impasse they are making the entire legislature look impotent?
I’m a critical employee, so there’s no chance of me being furloughed. But that doesn’t make this situation any less ridiculous.
