Snow

First - can we as a community make some sort of law or ordinance that officially retires the “OMG MILK / BREAD / EGGS LOL!” thing? You sound like an idiot when you guffaw loudly after telling everyone within earshot that you “went to the supermarket and saw EVERYONE loading up on MILK, BREAD, AND EGGS!!! OH LOL!” Area morning show hosts, I’m looking at you here.
So this is it. This is our big nor’easter blizzard. My front deck had a whopping five inches of snow on it this morning, with a crispy ice shell. Siberia, I’m telling you. While other companies and agencies were scurrying to close up shop and send employees home for the day, I found myself appreciating my Element’s vinyl flooring as I drove comfortably and easily to work.
I don’t bother listening to local radio any more, because my present employer never closes. Ever. Nuclear armageddon might be considered an acceptable excuse for being “a few minutes” late. So whatever the road conditions, I have to get to work. And today was no exception. Fortunately, the bulk of my 10-mile commute is on the beltway, and at 6:30 in the morning, traffic is never bad.
Personally, I don’t see what the big deal is all about. My car is bulletproof in the snow, partly due to being 4WD, partly due to weighing almost two tons on a Civic wheelbase, and largely due to my awesome driving skills (though truthfully, anti-lock brakes don’t do much on anti-stop roads). 81 and 83 were boring, so I went north and traversed some back roads. I took 22 up to 325, came back down 225 (mountain and all), took 443 out to Sleepy Hollow, went up over the mountain, hitched 39 back to 81, and, quite satisfied, went home. I even thought about running to Philly, but I was too tired.
I’m a little disappointed in the snow. We used to get this all the time; now it’s an “omg blizzard” and cause for the entire eastern seaboard to close for a week.
