Electronic Music Downtown

One of the common complaints about downtown nightlife is the complete lack of respect shown to electronic music.  Many, many, many people — myself included — limit ourselves to only a few venues because we can’t stand hearing “Holla Back Girl” billed as “the hottest club music in Central PA”, let alone played 5 times a night.  The “play nothing but hip hop” mentality, which may work great at a frat party, doesn’t necessarily translate well into the club / lounge environment, and unfortunately seems to be the driving force behind downtown Harrisburg.

That is, until now.

For a limited time only — three weeks, in fact — Prive is doing a test run of electronic music on Thursday nights (hey, that’s tonight!).  Resident DJs Matt Hart & Epitomee are down there RIGHT THIS SECOND.  Unfortunately, I can’t make it out this week, which is all the more reason why YOU need to go.  If nothing else, think of it as a break from the norm.  Even if you’re not that into the format, it’s worth a taste.

You might just be surprised.

  2. As far as I know, Prive and Max’s are the only venues doing any genre of dance music downtown at the moment, and Prive is the only venue doing so with DJs. Once in a great while Dragonfly will do a special event, but those are getting rarer and rarer these days. Other than Prive and Max’s, if you want dance music downtown, your best bet is to turn on BPM (or The Move or The System) and drive around Second Street. Sad but true.
