Noma + Dragonfly + Photos

Another typical Saturday night at Dragonfly. DJ Smooth was back from his hiatus, DJ Herk was on Level One, and the District … I’m not sure exactly what was going on in the District, but it was unique as usual. When I walked down, a guy was rapping and playing guitar over a beat from Jeffro. In fact, the only atypical thing about Dragonfly lately is the fog. Or rather, the lack thereof.
Three weeks ago, the hazer for Level One literally fell apart, and is now sitting on some technician’s workbench in Denmark awaiting repair. Two weeks ago, the fogger died of unknown causes. It heats up, it has fluid, the DMX signal is being received, and nothing is clogged, but it simply doesn’t make fog. While attempting to repair it last night, we somehow managed to actually break the compression chamber — no idea how. So basically, Dragonfly is fog-free for the next four weeks or so. I know some people hate the fog — personally, I don’t think a club is a club without lots and lots and lots and lots of fog — so if you’ve ever wanted to see the place without smoke, now’s your chance.
In other news, Noma has officially reopened as Privé (thanks Sara). Since I work weekends at Dragonfly, I didn’t get to see the place, but I’m told it looks a lot more like the original Noma, complete with improved service to boot. The plasma screens are still up, but now they’re apparently running a looped Clarinex commercial. I’ll head down during the week and grab some pictures.
Speaking of pictures, it’s been a long time since I’ve actually taken any. My camera phone takes surprisingly good shots, but it still doesn’t hold candle to my trusty Canon Powershot A75. So I hauled it downtown last night and made some memories. A select few of the pictures are viewable on Flickr. For the record, the night shots are blurry because it’s impossible to hold a camera perfectly still for 15 seconds without a tripod or brace. But they’re still interesting.

to be clear for the ten people braving that set by whoever it was during the mmc at district on saturday; the looped beat, guitar, and monotonous goth rock impersonation were all by the dude. geoffro had nothing to do it, i am pretty sure he was as appalled as the rest of us…
