Rumor and rampant speculation suggests that Harrisburg’s beleaguered spokesman, Randy King, will be leaving his position at the end of the year.  As you may recall, Randy was the one who blurted out a rather awkward explanation of city violence, citing hip hop as the cause of a recent city shooting.

This presents an interesting question:  Is Randy resigning over the fiasco?  Probably not.  Making a statement that was more in character with Michael from The Office than the spokesman for a growing city, while causing hundreds of thousands of locals to simultaneously cringe in a shared wince of embarassment, isn’t worthy of a resignation.  A retraction, perhaps, but not a resignation.

No:  more than likely, the opposite is true.  Randy, knowing that he’s on his way out, took a parting shot at — for reasons unknown — the city’s urban demographic.  It makes sense, really — it draws attention to the city’s  and allows him to … well, frankly, I can’t really squeeze any positive results out of what he said.

Either way, the rumor is out there.  It’s been circulating for quite some time now.  Any substantiation?
