Beertown

I’m temporarily stationed up here in State College again.  I have a few comments that I’d like to share with the class.

First off, the new Frost Nightclub WHQ is a hell of a lot nicer than the old one.  I especially like the not-John-Deere-powered air conditioning here, and the black-and-white deco kitchen floor is hot.  It reminds me a lot of my student housing back at Penn Tech … ah, Penn Center #309, how I miss the days …

*ahem*

The internet access here kinda sucks, but as I recall it’s included in the rent.  You can’t complain too much about free.  That’s never stopped me before, though, so here I go:  It feels like they have several units hooked up to a single 1.5m DSL line.  DNS queries are slow, throughout is less than ideal.

I did my first order using lionmenus.com-powered-by-citywaiter-dot-com(tm).  Sick to death of pizza, I ordered Chinese.  That made sense on some level, because Chinese is healthy.  It is.

I have an upcoming weekend in New York and no money to do it with.  I was originally planning on going to Spirit on Friday and Roxy on Saturday for Junior’s birthday bash, but with the introduction of some unanticipated engagements, I can only do one or the other.  And it has to be late Saturday night.  Junior is great, but the last time I heard him spin he was terrible.  And with Spirit being in the former home of Twilo and Sound Factory … well … how can I say no?  In typical New York fashion, the club opens at 8pm and runs until noon.  We won’t be arriving until 3 or so, which means not only will we have a hell of a line to fight through, but we’re also going to have less than 60 minutes until the bar closes.  Max Graham is our host with the most, you might say.

It’s time to bolt.  A non-English-speaking deliveryperson is at my door and a game of UT2k4 on Maddy East awaits.  But it’s going to be one hell of an update come Tuesday.
