MSNBC vs Paris

One of my frequent complaints — one which I spare the readers of this blog — is our national media. Wildfires burning out of control get pushed off the front page because “OMG PARIS HILTON GOT IN A CAR”. CNN reserves its “Breaking News” banners for such critical events as a pro wrestler’s family being killed. And Fox News … I don’t really need to say anything about Fox.
So I watched with tremendous glee today as MSNBC anchor Mika Brzezinski not only refused to lead her segment with Yet Another Paris Hilton story, but actually went so far as to attempt to set fire to the paper. I’m certain that she’ll be fired tomorrow for such a blatant display of journalism, and I was a little disappointed that MSNBC’s response was “Ha ha, women don’t control the news”, but for now, enjoy the video:

And of course, no mention of media hystics can be made without referencing John Stewart’s appearance on Crossfire a few years back. After watching this episode, CNN’s president more or less agreed that mass media political coverage was terrible, and that Crossfire was a leading example of the problem:
