Stupid Web Tricks

Have you ever done a search for something so ridiculously stupid that you just KNOW the results will be nothing but adbots and popups? Stuff like “guaranteed free money” and “cute funny pictures” and “best offer ever in the history of the entire universe” usually brings back a world of crap we were never meant to see. You know those “motivational” posters? Like the one with the kitten hanging onto a treebranch above the caption “hang in there!”? The people who think those are clever and adorable - they’ve got websites. And blogs. And pictures of kittens. And jokes. And “OMG THIS SCREENSAVER IS HILLARIOUS AND CUTE AND FUNNY AND REALLY MAKES YOU THINK OMGOMG!” You can always tell emails from these people without looking at the “From:” field, because the subject always starts with “FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW:”. They post eBay auctions using “L@@K!!!!!!” in the title (because who doesn’t search for “L@@K” when they’re looking for a new router?). They cut out Cathy cartoons and show them to their coworkers. They saw Office Space, but didn’t think it was funny. They go to Market Street Saloon.
For example, I found a whole page of chocolate jokes by the self-proclaimed “Queen of Online Internet Web e-Chocolate Cyberspace dot com net homepage site”. According to this site, you may be a chocoholic if:
… you have a lot of chocolate wrappers! OMG THIS IS U, JANET IN HR! LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL!! THIS IS JANET!
… you eat a lot of chocolate!
… you think a good meal is chocolate!
… you like the taste of chocolate!! OMG CINDY IN ACCOUNTING, THIS IS SO U!!! LOL A PUPPY!!!! CUTE!
… you have ever GONE TO THE STORE to BUY CHOCOLATE!!! OH LOL LOL LOL THIS IS SO TRUE!!!
I hate the internet.
