Cleaning House (Flight Part 2)

Just cleaning out my old MP3 player. It’s funny; that thing has kept me company since I purchased it just prior to Nantucket 2004. It has now become a sort of life journal. Hearing some of the old tracks that were on there reminds me of what was going on in my life when I added them. It was only within the last three years, but still.

Anyway, part two. Grab the MP3 file here. As you recall from last time, this is a recording of my first solo flight out of Capital City. This is my return leg, where I’m flying back into Cap City from the Carlisle practice area. Traffic had increased quite a bit since my departure about 90 minutes ago.

HARRISBURG: “Shuttlecraft seven eight ninety six, contact Harrisburg, one two six point four five good day.”
OTHER AIRCRAFT #1: “Twenty six forty five, good day, seventy eight ninety six.”
OTHER AIR #2: “Harrisburg Approach, experimental nine nine three delta delta has the field in sight.”
HARRISBURG:Experimental three delta delta, roger. Contact Capital City Tower one one niner point five.”
OTHER AIR #2: “Con nineteen five, good evening sir.”
HARRISBURG: “Good evening.”
OTHER AIR #3: “Harrisburg, Pilatus eight six one papa pop with you, up around ten two going down to nine.”
HARRISBURG: “Pilatus eight six one papa papa, Harrisburg. Descend and maintain five thousand. Altimeter three zero one niner.”
OTHER AIR #3: “Five thousand, one pop pop, thank you.”
HARRISBURG: “Cessna two one two nine juliet, contact Capital City Tower, one one niner point five.”
OTHER AIR #4: “Nineteen five, good day.”
HARRISBURG: “Good day. Warsky (?) eighty sixty, airport ten to eleven o’ clock to you and one four miles.”
OTHER AIR #5: “Uh, all right. We’re still looking for it through the haze.”
HARRISBURG: “Roger.”
OTHER AIR #6: “Hello Harrisburg. Citation six zero eight charlie echo through ten for niner.”
HARRISBURG: “Citation six zero eight charlie echo, descend and maintain five thousand. Visual approach runway two six Capital City. Altimeter three zero one niner.”
OTHER AIR #6: “Going down to five thousand, charlie echo, and I’d like to request runway eight if I can do it.”
HARRISBURG: “I’m not sure that’s going to work. There are three other slow, single-engine aircraft inbound for runway thirty all to the west of the airport presently.”
OTHER AIR #6: “Charlie echo, that’s fine.”
ME: “Harrisburg approach, skyhawk one seven two foxtrot whiskey.”
HARRISBURG: “Cessna two foxtrot whiskey, Harrisburg.”
ME: “Two foxtrot whiskey about five to the northeast of Carlisle airport, inbound for Capital City with tango.”
HARRISBURG: “Cessna two foxtrot whiskey squawk zero three six four.”
ME: “Zero three six four, two foxtrot whiskey.”
HARRISBURG: “Warsky (?) eighty sixty, turn right heading one one zero. Airport ten o’clock, now seven miles.”
OTHER AIR #5: “One one zero, we’ll pick it up in just a second, sky eighty sixty.”
HARRISBURG: “Cessna two foxtrot whiskey’s radar contact: turn left, heading zero five zero.”
ME: “Left zero five zero, two foxtrot whiskey.”
HARRISBURG: “Cessna two foxtrot whiskey, traffic two miles off your right is a Cessna Skyhawk, also inbound for Capital City, runway three zero.”
ME: “Looking for traffic, two foxtrot whiskey.”
OTHER AIR #5: “Warsky (?) has got it.”
HARRISBURG: “Warsky (?) eighty sixty clear visual approach runway three one, contact Harrisburg tower one two four point eight.”
OTHER AIR #5: “On a visual, and one two four point eight. Have a nice night.”
HARRISBURG: “(heterodyne interference) zero eight zero, descend and maintain four thousand.”
OTHER AIR #6: “Zero eight zero heading, down to four thousand, charlie echo.”
HARRISBURG: “Pilatus one papa papa, descend and maintain four thousand, proceed direct Capital City.”
OTHER AIR #3: “Four thousand, direct Capital City, and we have tango.”
HARRISBURG: “Roger. Cessna two foxtrot whiskey, turn right heading one zero zero. Traffic will be about two miles off your right, about to enter a long downwind, Cessna one seventy two.”
ME: “Turn right one zero zero, still looking, two foxtrot whiskey.”
HARRISBURG: “Cessna two foxtrot wendy. Correction, seven two foxtrot whiskey, enter the left downwind for runway three zero, descend your discretion.”
ME: “Left downwind three zero, two foxtrot whiskey.”
HARRISBURG: “Cessna two foxtrot whiskey, contact Capital City tower, one one niner point five.”
ME: “Capital City tower, one seven two foxtrot whiskey with you at two thousand.”
CAP CITY: “November one seven two foxtrot whiskey, turn southbound please. This will be to follow a Cessna 172 off your right wing.”
ME: “Turning southbound and looking for traffic, two foxtrot whiskey.”
CAP CITY: “November seven nine zero alpha sierra, taxi to your runway three zero, hold short of three zero on charlie, I’ll have TRSA for you in just a moment. Two seven delta, right turn next taxiway, to the ramp.”
OTHER AIR #7: “Two seven delta, right turn foxtrot, to the ramp.”
CAP CITY: “Three delta delta, plan to turn on the alternate for your ramp, traffic is taxiing out from the south side.”
OTHER AIR #8: “Three delta delta.”
CAP CITY: “November zero alpha sierra, after departure maintain at or below two thousand until advised by Harrisburg Departure. Harrisburg Departure will be one two four point one and squawk zero three two zero.”
OTHER AIR #9: “Tower, two niner juliet south of the corridor, we’re inbound.”
CAP CITY: “Two nine juliet, runway three zero, cleared to land. November zero alpha sierra cross runway three zero, taxi three zero.”
OTHER AIR #9: “Two nine juliet cleared to land, three zero.”
CAP CITY: “Three delta delta to the ramp, good night Larry.”
OTHER AIR #8: “Three delta delta, see ya later.”
CAP CITY: “Four whiskey bravo, haven’t forgotten about you. I’m waiting on a release from approach control sir. And there’s no inbound traffic for runway two six, you can remain right there.”
OTHER AIR #10: “Not a problem.”
CAP CITY: “November six zero eight charlie echo, Capital City Tower, runway two six cleared to land. November … correction, tango november four one four whiskey bravo, runway two six, fly runway … correction, fly heading three zero zero, cleared for takeoff.”
OTHER AIR #10: “Three zero zero, cleared for takeoff, whiskey bravo.”
CAP CITY: “Foxtrot whiskey, you can turn inbound now. Traffic departing runway two six on a runway heading.”
ME: “All right, turning in for left downwind three zero, two foxtrot whiskey.”
OTHER AIR #6: “And charlie echo’s cleared to land.”
CAP CITY: “Zero eight charlie echo, that is correct. And two foxtrot whiskey, you have the other traffic in sight sir?”
ME: “That’s a negative, I’m still looking.”
CAP CITY: “Ok. Tango november four whiskey bravo, right turn heading three zero zero. Contact Harrisburg Departure, good day.”
OTHER AIR #10: “Three zero zero, departure, good day, whiskey bravo.”
CAP CITY: “Four nine two seven delta, standby one please. Ok, Cessna two nine juliet, I’ll tell you what - how about extending your downwind to the turnpike bridge before turning inbound. I have a Citation jet turning inbound for runway two six.”
OTHER AIR #9: “Two niner juliet will comply with that.”
CAP CITY: “For two whiskey, correction two foxtrot whiskey, follow the Cessna ahead, he’s going to the turnpike bridge before turning inbound.”
ME: “All right, two foxtrot whiskey.”
CAP CITY: “Cessna two seven delta taxi runway two six.”
OTHER AIR #9: “Two niner juliet, turning inbound.”
CAP CITY: “Two niner juliet, roger. The Citation jet’s on a half mile final. Clear to land, runway three zero.”
OTHER AIR #9: “Two nine juliet.”
OTHER AIR #11: “Cap city tower, Grumman seven niner zero alpha sierra at three zero ready to take off.”
CAP CITY: “Grumman seven nine zero alpha sierra, Cap City Tower. Runway three zero hold short, landing traffic.”
OTHER AIR #11: “Hold short, seven nine zero alpha sierra.”
OTHER AIR #3: “Cap city tower, Pilatus eight six one pop pop, seven west, inbound for three zero, visual.”
CAP CITY: “One papa pop, Cap City tower. Report midfield, left downwind runway three zero.”
OTHER AIR #3: “Will call it, one pop pop.”
CAP CITY: “Charlie echo, if able, right turn on foxtrot. If unable, continue through the intersection to the end with a right turn.”
OTHER AIR #6: “Okay, we can do fox, charlie echo.”
CAP CITY: “Thank you sir, and you can come up … correction, you can taxi to the ramp.”
OTHER AIR #6: “To the ramp, charlie echo.”
OTHER AIR #12: “Cap City tower, eight mike echo ready for takeoff on two six.”
CAP CITY: “Three one eight mike echo, roger, hold short.”
OTHER AIR #12: “Eight mike echo holding short.”
CAP CITY: “Two foxtrot whiskey, that traffic’s just off your left wing now, he’s on a three-quarter mile final. You’re cleared to land, number two.”
ME: “All right, traffic in sight. Clear to land number two for three zero, two foxtrot whiskey.”
CAP CITY: “November two seven delta, after departure maintain at or below two thousand until advised by Departure. Departure one two four point one, squawk zero three two one. Cessna three one eight mike echo, runway two six, position and hold.”
OTHER AIR #12: “Eight mike echo, position and hold two six.”
CAP CITY + OTHER AIR #3: “(heterodyne interference) clear to land / papa’s downwind, midfield three zero”
ME: “Was that clear to land for two foxtrot whiskey?”
CAP CITY: “Affirmative. One papa papa, roger, understand midfield downwind runway three zero, you’re number two, cleared to land.”
OTHER AIR #3: “One pop pop.”
CAP CITY: “Two foxtrot whiskey, right turn foxtrot, to the ramp.”
ME: “Right on foxtrot to the ramp, two foxtrot whiskey.”
