TV

I had a nasty run-in with Dish Network’s “customer” “service” over the “weekend”, so I’ve been shopping around the various options available for my television viewing pleasure.

Generally speaking I watch very little TV.  This is partly because I have very little free time, and largely because what little free time I *do* have, I don’t want to spend watching American Idol and When Malls Attack.  Honestly, if it weren’t for West Wing, House, and reruns of NYPD Blue, I wouldn’t watch any (thank God for DVRs).  If Nick starts running St. Elsewhere, I’d watch that too, but only to see the MTM kitten in the final episode.  Anyway:

Comcast cable:

  • Limited Basic (5 local stations only) Cable:  $15.95 / mo
  • Basic Digital Cable:  $59.95 / mo (!)
  • Standard Digital Basic Cable:  $74.10 / mo (!!)
  • DVR:  Add $9.95 / mo
  • Installation:  $39.95

    DirecTV:

  • Basic (”Total Choice”):  $41.99 / mo
  • Standard (”Total Choice Plus”):  $45.99 / mo
  • Premium (”TC Premier”):  $93.99 / mo
  • DVR:  Add $5.99 / mo + cost of equipment
  • Installation:  Free

    Dish Network:

  • Basic (”America’s Top 60″):  $26.99 / mo
  • Standard (”America’s Top 120″):  $37.99 / mo
  • Premium (”America’s Everything”):  $81.99
  • DVR:  Free
  • Installation:  Free

$70 for Comcast, $48 for DirecTV, $27 for Dish Network.  Crap.
